What to do here?
Climb the spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse lantern room. The view of the fishing boats leaving the harbour against the setting sun is mesmerizing. The base of the lighthouse is a great spot for sitting and watching the waves crash against the rocks.
The Story & History
Bhatkal was a major trading port during the Vijayanagara Empire and later for the British. This lighthouse was crucial for guiding spice trade ships safely into the estuary.
Important Tips
Lighthouses in India have strict visiting hours, usually only 4 PM to 5:30 PM. Do not go earlier as you won't be allowed inside.
