Overview

Yana is a biodiversity hotspot famous for two giant crystalline karst rock formations that tower over the forest. The taller one is Bhairaveshwara Shikhara (120m), and the smaller one is Mohini Shikhara (90m). A naturally formed Cave Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva sits at the base.

What to do here?

Enjoy the Forest Trek (approx 1.5 km) which is a scenic nature walk. Once you reach the top, visit the temple inside the rock where water drips naturally onto the Shiva Linga. You can also perform a 'Pradakshina' (circumambulation) around the massive rocks through a hollow cave passage.

The Story & History

Mythology links this place to the demon Bhasmasura. The unique black soil and limestone rocks here are believed to be the ash from the fire that burned him.

Important Tips

Leeches are very common during monsoon; carry salt or wear long socks. There is absolutely no mobile network here. Carry cash as online payments won't work.
